A look inside the greenhouse:
Artistic Australian anigozanthos

No two Anigozanthos are alike. Their unique flowers, resembling kangaroo paws, symbolize individuality. Greenflor invites you to explore the greenhouse of A. van den Haak in Rijnsburg, where these extraordinary flowers are cultivated with care.Â

Meet the Grower
Upon arrival, a sign reads: âIf absent, please callâ. After a quick phone call, grower Renee van den Haak greets you with a smile. âWelcome,â he says, as he opens the greenhouse doors. Everywhere you look, the artistic Anigozanthos, also known as kangaroo paws, are in full display. âTake a close look at the flowers,â Renee explains, âthey really do resemble a kangarooâs paw. This unique flower originates from Australia.âÂ

Unique flower with character
Anigozanthos immediately captures attention with its velvety stems and colorful petals that emerge from a cluster of large leaves. Each flower has a slightly different shape, giving the plant its distinctive appearance. Renee points to the side branches and explains, âThe main stems have already been cut; what you see now are the side branches. In the wild, Anigozanthos can grow up to two meters tall, always reaching for the light.â This special flower grows year-round, making it a favorite among florists.Â

An exotic flower of uniqueness
The name Anigozanthos is derived from the Greek âanisesâ (unequal) and âanthosâ (flower). In Australia, this exotic flower symbolizes individuality and uniqueness. There are about twelve varieties of this plant, which first arrived in Europe in 1803. âItâs truly an exclusive product,â Renee says proudly. For most of the year, he works alone in the greenhouse, sometimes assisted by his father and extra help during the busy spring season.Â
Around the stems, small containers with seeds hang, part of Reneeâs biological approach. âWe control pests naturally by releasing controlled natural predators. Not a drop of water is wasted; we use rainwater and recycle everything that drains from the pots.âÂ
The latest trendÂ
In the hall, bunches of the artistic Anigozanthos are ready to be sent to their new owners. Alongside the straight stems, there are bunches with flowers growing in all directions. âThis used to be considered waste, but now these crooked and twisted variants are gaining popularity,â Renee explains. âThey add something extra to a bouquet by standing out.âÂ
Anigozanthos is available year-round and can grow up to 1.5 meters tall. This sturdy flower is perfect for mixed bouquets and has a vase life of at least ten days. Keeping it cool will help Anigozanthos stay beautiful for longer.Â
