In the heart of Dutch horticulture, in the Betuwe region, Wiljo van den Berg began his adventure with waxed ornamental fruit some 25 years ago. What started with melting down Hema candles in a large pan led to the first waxed pear. This was the beginning of an extraordinary story, which would eventually grow into an important part of our exclusive flower range.

With a crate full of wax pears on his bicycle, Wiljo rode to cities such as Den Bosch and Geldermalsen. His unique creations immediately attracted attention. Via-via he came into contact with Greenflor founder Cees de Mooij, who immediately responded enthusiastically. The demand for waxed ornamental fruit exploded. The range quickly grew from wax apples and pears to wax bulbs, and the rest is history.

In 2017, Wiljo and Edwin van Steijn of flower bulb nursery Van Steijn - Damen joined forces. Together, they designed machines that efficiently separate bulbs, potting soil and roots. This not only saves costs, but also contributes to sustainability. Success came quickly: today, they jointly produce around one million wax bulbs a year. Especially in autumn and during the holidays, these beautiful wax bulbs, available at our flower wholesale business, are sold in large quantities.

What once started in a simple kitchen pan has grown into a professional company. Yet much of the process remains handmade. The latest innovation is the hyacinth wax bulb with water pin. This 2.5 cm water pin is inserted into the bottom of the bulb by hand. The material absorbs water, making the bulb bloom longer and stronger. This makes for an extra beautiful product in our exclusive flower range, available in our flower wholesale online.
