Inleiding blog - Schitterende ginster van kweker Gabrielle

In one of the most beautiful corners of Europe, between the Italian mountains and the Mediterranean, lies Gabrielle's orchard. Here in San Remo, he grows beautiful ginster, branches full of delicate white flowers. Gabrielle's passion for these exclusive flowers is evident in every branch he delivers.

A natural splendour

Gabrielle takes us in his old Fiat along the flowering trees and talks enthusiastically about his work. The early varieties of ginster grow on the sunny coastal slopes, where they flower from mid-November to the end of March. In the cooler hinterland grow the late varieties, which are harvested later in the season. Every hundred metres higher up the mountain, the temperature drops by one degree, creating a unique variety of ginster. This allows Gabrielle to deliver throughout the season, with branches growing a metre a year.

Natural and organic colouring

Although the original colour of ginster is white, Greenflor offers a wide range of colours. Dyeing the flower organically with food colouring gives ginster beautiful hues. Red is popular around Christmas, while yellow is often chosen around Easter. Lilac, pink and orange are also popular colours that fit perfectly into various seasonal bouquets.

A timeless addition

Ginster is widely used in bouquets and is an excellent addition to any arrangement. In the past, ginster replaced gypsophila, which was not available in winter. Nowadays, ginster is a popular choice for a bright bouquet that comes into its own in any setting.

Craftsmanship and allocation

Gabrielle carefully harvests the white varieties of ginster when they are ripe. With different varieties and slopes on his mountain, he can harvest for weeks. He starts with the low-lying early varieties and ends with the higher, later-flowering ginster. As a result, he delivers ginster to Greenflor for two to three months, always of the highest quality.

Gabrielle's trees

The trees in Gabrielle's nursery are already forty to fifty years old. Every year, he prunes the trees back completely so they can grow again in the new season. Everything he cuts off he sells, and by the end of March the remaining branches are harvested. The bare trees then wait for rain and a good growing season. Gabrielle spends the rest of the year on maintenance, pruning, watering and disease control, before delivering the finest ginster in three months.
