lavender

Bring Provence into your home with a lovely bunch of lavender! Who doesn't get excited by the purple-blue flower bunches with their irresistible scent? Dried lavender not only remains beautiful to look at for a long time, but is also a real treat for the olfactory system. Lavender, also known as Lavandula, is one of our favourite dried flowers partly because of this. Indeed, with its strong stem and sturdy flowers, lavender is great for drying.

lavender species
Lavender gets its name from its blue-purple flowers; those who think of lavender think of the plume-like flowers with the characteristic, eponymous colour. However, lavender does not only come in purple. There are also varieties with white or pink flowers. At Greenflor Wholesale, you can buy different varieties of lavender for your wholesale business, garden centre or flower shop. Below you can read more about a number of lavender varieties you can order from our webshop.

lavender in your summer range
The lovely lavender exudes a calming charm on its own, but also comes into its own in a mix with other summer flowers. In Greenflor's webshop, you will find an extensive collection of summer flowers to create breathtaking, sun-kissed arrangements. For example, consider our lush peonies, known for their exuberant colours and full blooms. Or add a playful touch with the dainty pampas grass, available in both natural and coloured varieties. However, you will find many more summer flowers at Greenflor to complete your summer assortment. How about radiant sunflowers, the majestic delphinium, the magical lathyrus, the elegant allium or the tropical-looking anthurium?

your lavender wholesale
To source the highest quality lavender, we work closely with growers in France. There, lavender grows naturally on the limestone soils of Provence, some 800 to 1100 metres above sea level. Provence's climate gives the lavenders an extra bright, beautiful colour.

harvesting by hand
The lavender goes into the French soil in autumn. The first year's harvest is limited, but each year thereafter the harvest is bigger. The fragrant, purple-blue lavender fields are ready for harvest in the month of July. At the nurseries Greenflor works with, the lavender harvest is still done by hand in the traditional way; with a sickle, the growers cut the stalks bunch by bunch from the land. After about three weeks, all lavender plants are harvested.
the drying process
After the lavender is harvested, the bunches are dried naturally: upside down in a huge drying shed that protects the flowers from the bright sun. This way, the flowers retain their characteristic colour. Thanks to the warm French summer wind, the lavenders are dried after about a week and ready to enrich your summer assortment!

sustainable cultivation
Since 2019, Greenflor has been sponsoring SPLP, a fund that conserves lavender development in Provence. This support allows universities and laboratories to research natural solutions against harmful diseases and bacteria. The fund will also reduce CO2 emissions from lavender production by 50 per cent before 2029. During harvest, as many as 20,000 bees per hectare are also protected. So together, we can continue to enjoy dried lavender from Provence for a long time to come!
