Mauro, a passionate Italian, provides a fresh supply of breathtaking anemones, ranunculus, greens, cheerful daisies and calendula three times a week in Liguria. His craftsmanship and love of flowers make him a reliable supplier for Greenflor.
Cooperation with Greenflor
Marc van Graas, buyer at Greenflor, has been working closely with Mauro for more than 12 years. "What makes Mauro special is his reliability and commitment. He works entirely for Greenflor and we are completely on the same page," says Marc. Three times a week, Marc visits Mauro to check purchasing and quality. During these visits, they discuss production planning for the coming season. They also adjust day trade and packaging methods to meet changing demand.
Flourishing production
Mauro and his brother grow an impressive 56,000 ranunculus tubers every year. Production is on schedule: "We plant the tubers around 20 August, and they start flowering at the end of October. We cut flowers until mid-April, with the highest production in March and April," Mauro explains. During these months, the longer days, higher light intensity and higher temperatures ensure optimal flowering. After mid-April, it becomes too warm for the ranunculus, which stops flowering. This shows how dependent we are on nature!
Ideal conditions for ranunculus
Liguria offers perfect conditions for Ranunculus thanks to its unique microclimate. This specific climate creates ideal growing conditions that cannot be found anywhere else. Just as champagne comes only from the Champagne region, anemones, ranunculus, mimosa and ginster are best grown in Liguria. The mild weather and specific conditions make this region ideal for growing flowers of exceptional quality.
Purely natural growth conditions
Mauro stresses, "We don't force climatic conditions. Ranunculus grows naturally in the open air. We only protect the flowers from hailstorms. Due to the unique location of our nursery, there is no night frost, and the sea breeze prevents diseases that do occur in other places. This ensures that only here can we grow such a unique and high-quality product!"
