The future of lilies
Wim-Jan Paauw welcomes us enthusiastically. ‘Feel free to come and look around,’ he says kindly. At the very first step into the greenhouse, your senses begin to tingle. An impressive, fully automatic system continuously moves the lilies through the greenhouse. This sophisticated conveyor system ensures precise matching of heat, light and water, all aimed at achieving top-quality lilies.
The greenhouses where the lilies grow are carefully regulated to a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. Between October and March, the lilies receive extra light via solar panels on the roofs.
A unique combination of tradition and innovation
Dutch Lily Masters was born from the collaboration between three lily growers: Paauw, Imanse and Dutch. These family businesses have a long and rich history in lily cultivation. The current generation of these companies, led by Klaas Wagenaar, Wim-Jan Paauw and André Imanse, brings a fresh perspective and innovative techniques to the process. They combine their deep-rooted traditions with modern techniques to grow lilies of the highest quality.
The beauty of lilies
In the greenhouses of Dutch Lily Masters, you will see an impressive variety of lilies. While the world is full of lily varieties, they specialise in ten exclusive varieties that are available year-round, such as the Santander, Marlon and the unique Frontera. Wim-Jan proudly shares that Frontera can be found exclusively with them.
All lilies are carefully checked and selected. They are placed on a long belt, where each lily is carefully assessed. They are then hand-tied together into beautiful bunches, ready to enchant art lovers worldwide.
Advances in cultivation
Dutch Lily Masters is all about innovation. They are constantly experimenting with new lily varieties and techniques. ‘We have added fragrance-free lilies to our collection, such as Valencia, Sunderland and Brindisi,’ Wim-Jan explains, showing off some bulbs. Thanks to Lilies of Life's years of experience, they are able to offer these innovative varieties. ‘Not everyone enjoys the fragrance of a lily like we do,’ he adds with a laugh.
Exclusive varieties and popular choices
Besides their regular range, they also grow a number of exclusive lily varieties such as Yellow Cocette, Twinlife Red and Tribal Dance. ‘Although we have many special varieties, white lilies remain the favourite,’ says Wim-Jan. They are perfect for any occasion, from comfort at funerals to brilliance at weddings.
