At HIP Holland, everything revolves around sustainability and quality. After 18 years in the export industry, the grower decided to change direction. The adventure began: growing flowers! The passion for the floral world persisted, especially for the enchanting beauty of cut hydrangeas. But the starting point was far from ideal: an old, dilapidated rose nursery, right in the midst of an economic crisis. Yet, they breathed new life into it, with one mission: pure, sustainable flowers.
a seasonal product with character
At HIP Holland, growth is seasonal. Unlike roses, hydrangeas cannot be controlled with lighting or heating. This makes it challenging but also adds to their uniqueness. They require care, attention, and... patience. The season starts in May and lasts until mid-November. Many growers force blooms as early as March, but this affects longevity. HIP Holland lets nature take its course. The result? Hydrangeas that not only stay fresher longer but also flourish with natural strength.
sustainability: not just a word, but a way of life
Two years ago, the energy crisis disrupted everything. HIP Holland took a radical step: they stopped heating their greenhouses. This shortened the season by a month but increased the quality. Thanks to natural ventilation and reduced gas usage, cultivation is now nearly fully organic. The hydrangeas are stronger, healthier, and, most importantly, more sustainable.
The grower also discovered that less is often more. Instead of overloading the plants with nutrients, they receive exactly what they need. This results in sturdier flowers that last longer. And, of course, it's better for the environment!
