Jan Willem and Chris van Egmond have been passionately growing dahlias for five years. They enjoy their work every day, alternating between dahlias and tulips. This variety keeps their work at Kwekerij Van Egmond engaging and challenging. From April to October, they grow eight different types of dahlias, after which they switch to growing tulips in the same greenhouse. This keeps the cultivation process exciting and diverse.
a dedicated team of flower lovers
Each year, the brothers plant new dahlia tubers, resulting in a colorful bloom every season. During the peak season, they grow approximately half a million dahlias. Jan Willem and Chris don't do this alone; they have a core team of four people and bring in additional workers during busy periods. As a result, there are sometimes up to eight people working in the greenhouse to care for these beautiful flowers.

After planting the tubers, it takes about three months for the dahlias to fully bloom. The eight varieties grown bloom simultaneously, with names like dahlia Wizard of Oz, dahlia Black Fox, and dahlia Caro. These varieties create a lively and colorful spectacle in the greenhouse. Upon entering, you are welcomed by an oasis of greenery and vibrant colors.
The dahlias are carefully hand-cut and bundled. They are then placed in buckets of water, ready for flower delivery to customers. Dahlias are particularly popular for events like weddings, where their unique beauty shines.
