Roses from exotic Ecuador are a year-round showpiece within the Greenflor assortment. They have more intense colors, larger heads and thicker stems than their European or African brothers. Why is that? Thanks to the fertile volcanic soil and the love and passion that go into it!

Why roses from Ecuador

In the rich, fertile volcanic soil of Ecuador at an altitude of about 3,000 meters, the rose bushes find all the nutrition they need. The South American climate provides the perfect amount of sunlight hours and the best temperatures daily. As a result, these roses grow longer, stronger and more colorful than their European counterparts.

Greenflor’s history with roses from Ecuador

About 15 years ago Leo Verbeek – a familiar face at the Rijnsburg flower auction – and his cousin Jan Verwer started buying and selling roses from Ecuador. At that time, this was not yet via a website or webshop. With auction carts full of beautiful roses, they drove around the auction themselves, looking for enthusiastic customers who could appreciate their trade. After collaborating with major Rijnsburg truckers and with florist wholesaler Van der Plas, their rose trade joined Greenflor in 2014. Today, a team of rose specialists within Greenflor ensures the sale of some 7 million stems of roses from Ecuador every year.

About Greenflor roses:

– Our assortment consists of about 150 different roses, from fresh to preserved and from dyed to waxed.

– Greenflor imports roses from about 25 different nurseries in Ecuador, each with its own specialty.

– Our largest partner in Ecuador is a nursery of about 60 hectares, producing one million stems per week.

– Every week our rose specialists buy and sell as many as 100,000 to 150,000 stems.

– Almost all Ecuadorian roses end up with florists, who turn our roses into the most beautiful showpieces.
